What I Learned About Zombies

Rotting flesh. No breath.
Subsist on fresh humans. But,
they are people too.

Tuesday, October 5, 2010

Phew! The submissions,
they have started. Now begins
eternal waiting.

Thank you everyone.
The tree sits near, the pen still.
Query here I come.

Almost a Novel

One pound of paper
Plus twenty months of hard work
MS almost done.

A Fine Way to Wake Up

Crashing, then screaming.
Shoes, purses, clothes, and baskets
All fell on my head.

Friday, July 30, 2010

"Oh hi," she whispers.
"It's funny seeing you here."
Guess she better post...

Kentucky bluegrass,
no horses, only a priest.
And then she's all yours.

I have not forgotten you.
Inspiration lags.

Morning Coffee

Soft steam envelopes
Caressing my skin, and, whoops,
Fogging my glasses.

Saturday, May 8, 2010

Over the river
Through woods and some construction
to gramma's we go.

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Doorknobs and counters.
Tables, chairs, and even walls.
They're out to get me.

Sunday, April 25, 2010

Gentle hum. Click clack.
More humming, then loud banging.
Coin in the dryer.

Worker Bee

"Hooray for Friday!"
For years a meaningless cheer.
Now it is my life.

Thursday, April 22, 2010

It's playoff season.
Pucks fly over melting ice.
Sudden death to win.

Squirrels and penguins
Squeaking night and day, alas
the toys will get me.

Monday, April 19, 2010

The work force beckons.
Endless free time replaced with
the nine to five life.

What Spring?

Sun shining, birds chirp
but deep inside my dungeon
all is in darkness.

More Haiku?

I haven't forgot
but I feel like I'm talking
to a black abyss.

Force of Habit

Legs splayed, belly flat.
Tile cools fur that's hot no more.
Froggy's here to stay.

Wednesday, April 7, 2010

I met a dog with
a head larger than my dog.
I will call him horse.

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

Bouncing fur and ball
the puppy loves his new yard.
Run, run, run, bark, run.

My sleek new cell phone
is paid for but not in stock.
Alas, not mine yet.

Surgeon's precision
Connecting bones and tendons
So glad it's not me.

Tranquility Interrupted

Early morning calm.
Deep breathes, eyes drift shut. But then
the puppy wakes up.

Lesson #3

A shriek. Screeching, then
Sputtering, grinding, growling.
Shifting into first.

Frosty mist rises
revealing the still water
of the Grand River.

Basketball, health care,
new car, birthday dinner, and
an amazing race.

March Nineteenth

Snow blankets the ground.
Quiet, solitude. I think
spring is on delay.

Friday, March 19, 2010

March Madness

Sunshine, college hoops.
Two forces conspiring to
keep me from my work.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010

St. Patrick's Day

A four-leaf clover,
green shirt and mug of green beer.
Birthday tradition.

Monday, March 15, 2010

How does that song go?
Robin red-breast in the sky...
Yep, that's what we've got.

Daylight Savings

When four becomes five,
morning comes too soon for me.
The puppy cares not.

Almost Spring

The sun peeks through clouds,
melting, warming, bringing life.
Spring is on its way.

To My Followers

I want to thank you
for writing the absolute
best comments ever.

Friday at 3pm

I'm off (in the van)
so wish me luck with driving
and the interview.

Dresses swirling 'round,
satin, tulle and taffeta.
Princess for a day.

Wednesday, March 3, 2010

I'm searching for words,
wanting my friends to submit.
Do you have haiku?

The Best Laid Plans

Coffee, music -- check.
Closed facebook and twitter -- check.
Now dog wants to play.

*rubs hands together*
Twitter, you aren't the only
website with new words.

Boy scouts, asbestos,
shavers, fish oil, dog fences...
Now: affidavits.

The license is mine,
but now the library says,
"No card for you." *sigh*

One More Try

I come to you, oh
fickle government office.
My dream - a license.

You Can Haiku -- Adam Slade

Words put in order
Can delight, repulse, arouse,
or make my head hurt.

"Melanie Hooyen-
ga Avila" takes up half
a bloody haiku.

Editing, it's like
Taking a jigsaw apart
Then reconstructing

Saying goodbye - it's
Harder then saying hello
On the first meeting.

A big cup of tea
is akin to floating through
heaven in warm slacks.

Crossbows make ping pong
ten times more fun, and fifty
eight times more lethal

Sex and drugs and rock.
No roll, as that didn't fit
The haiku format.

My muse has black wings,
they are used to cool my brain.
Also, deflect bullets.

Dogs have two desires:
Feline extermination,
and tummy tickles.

My dog Ollie wrote
this haiku, he believes that
the form can-- SQUIRREL!!!

You say five more reps
But I know better than that
Finish strong my ...

Morning Snow

Gleaming and white,
how long will the freshness last?
Here comes the puppy...

Following a scent
Not knowing what's buried there
But certain it's good.
